BUY IT NOW: HOLIDAY DECOR
I know Halloween JUST happened but it’s time to start thinking holiday. This is the weekend to do it. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to decorate now, but if you want to snag the decorations, the best holiday decorations that is, you need to swing by your favorite shops now. I’ll have a treasure trove as the season goes on to share some of my favorites from mainstream to lovely locals. But for now, I’ll share my strategy and some of the cutest goodies I have seen so far.
I have photo proof that I saw Christmas decorations out in May. NO JOKE. I am a die hard Christmas gal- I decorate early every year, EVERY year, but this was out before school was. That is a little early. Even as a blogger who has done many holiday seasons, I know first hand that sometimes your holiday shoots are in August and I appreciate that I don’t have to search the clearance aisle for Christmas stuff. But May- wowza.
In the bright and bubbly collection we have rainbow sisal trees from, wait for it, Hobby Lobby. These trees are under $5! Does anyone else remember when those sets were over a hundred bucks? You had like two places to find them or you had to DIY it. Even me, a DIY maven, thought that was WAY too much work. The garland is gorgeous from CB2, it comes in black too, for you graphic lovers. Remember when buying garland, always buy 2, maybe 3. They have more statement making impact when you use multiples. The big stores have good ornaments this year. Seriously, so good. Check out Michaels and Belk for some fun quirky ornaments. I bought the flamingo pool float ornament because secretly I’ve always wanted to lounge in the pool on one but I am too shy to do it at the neighborhood pool.
In the classic Christmas collection we have a killer tree topper from CB2. It also comes in silver and is super fun and modern but would still look gorgeous next to some blue and white and tartan. Target is a must see every year for their Sugar Paper holiday collection. This year they have striped table runners (red and black versions) and gold jingle bell décor. I snagged the bottle stopper and the placecard holders, that I will use to hold up holiday cards. Besides, who doesn’t need some gorgeous wrapping paper and giftboxes? HomeGoods is a great source for classics like boxwood wreaths and balls, but buy them now cause they are the first to go. If you can’t find them in the holiday section, peek in the garden/pots/faux floral section. You are welcome. Besides, where else can you find boxwood balls for $5.99? While you are at it, snag current Kate Spade holiday linens like tablecloths, napkins and kitchen towels at half price. No joke. I have done this every year since moving to Charleston and I even get extra for gifts. Do it now though, they go fast. Good Cheer sign is at Hobby Lobby and I found it at the bottom of a shelf, how cute, right?
I am an early decorator - there’s got to be a catchy name for it. I am in no way trying to promote the hustle and bustle insanity that will happen. I strive to make the holidays chill and relaxed, that’s why I am letting you know that if you pop down the Christmas section while picking up pillows, sweatshirts for the kids or laundry detergent, you can start knocking off a few things early. This isn’t my first rodeo, I have been decorating for a while now, so I have been gathering a few decorations each year. Over many years this gives me a curated collection of my favorites. If you are like me, then you too need to check out each new season to see what 2 or 3 items will fit perfectly with your décor.
If you are new in the game, you need to build your collection and will probably need two or three of each item to help things feel more cohesive. If you shop early, you will find what you need and there will be more than one of each item. I’m a pairs girl and if you want pairs (or triplets) of anything you have to shop at the get-go.
I know its early November; we can’t control when the game starts, but we can play it the best we can. Besides, once I snag all my decoration goodies this early- I’m done. One more thing OFF the list and relaxation with some cocoa on my mind. You will be sipping champagne while everyone else is running around town trying to find matching. I am always on the hunt for little trees and my collection is finally getting pretty good. Do you have something you look for every year?
